Do I have to record an audio transcript?

If you are writing the audio transcription, you are not actually recording anything. You are writing the script that will be recorded by an Ackland staff member down the line. To see examples, click the pink button underneath the audio player that says “Audio transcription” on the Close Looks online. Your script should be a similar length to the examples online and use a similar tone.

Do I have to conduct interviews?

If you are soliciting responses for “What do you see,” you do not need to interview a professor or academic. This may be a fruitful connection, but think about community member broadly (outside UNC is absolutely fine). You must run the person you are asking to comment by your TA to ensure that we are getting a range of responses and not overloading any one person.

How do I write a good question?

If you are doing the “What do you think” section, remember that these questions are supposed to be thought provoking and open ended. For example, do not include questions with yes or no answers.

How many bibliographic sources do I need ? What kinds of sources are best?

If you are in charge of “Keep exploring” remember you are creating both a bibliography and an “about the art” page (the close looks for Ogun has a good example of this). For the bibliography, aim for about 5 sources that are accessible online. Remember quality over quantity! Really vet your sources and think about what the visitor could get out of them and if they are reliable (ask a librarian if you are unsure). Try not to have 5 sources that provide the exact same information. Look at the bibliography on the Close Looks page and write a similar sentence that would link the source and let the visitor know what information they’ll get and where it’s from.
